Factor 50 Ball 2013 ( now Melanoma UK incorporating Factor 50)

Charity Ball

We were contacted by Gillian Nuttall the founder of Factor 50 which is now Melanoma UK (incorporating Factor 50)-a charity providing patient support and advocacy to melanoma patients at all stages. They required some help with planning their 2013 ball. The ball was held at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Ground and 300 guests attended to raise money for this very worthy cause. Among the guests were Craig from the first Big Brother, Miss Liverpool and actor Jack Marsden. Darren Proctor from Key 103 was engaged to compere the event.

We helped Gill to ensure that the room was designed perfectly and sourced and negotiated with the relevant suppliers including a photographer. As the emblem of Factor 50 at the time was the sunflower we picked up on this theme and arranged for hand tied sunflower table arrangements to be made and displayed in tall Lilly vases. On alternate tables were tall bunches of yellow and black balloons. Each guest had a goody bag waiting for them on their seat packed with luxury treats that had been kindly donated and which we had helped to obtain and had packed and the seats were covered with sumptuous velvet chair covers.

The walls were lit up with coloured lights and revolving shapes which looked like the silhouette of a sunflower. We coordinated the set up on the day and were in attendance throughout the whole evening.

To pardon the pun they guests had a ball and gave generously. At one point during the champagne drinks reception on the upper tier of the venue the electric blinds raised to reveal the main room below to gasps of delight. After a gorgeous 3 course meal guests took part in a raffle and both a silent iPad auction and also a live auction took place which included a week on a yacht which fetched £10,000.

Shortly after the auction the sound of Katy Perry’s ‘Firework ‘ song came on and the blinds in the room rose up to reveal the cricket pitch and fireworks started to rise to the sky from the stands. It was fabulous to watch almost everyone get off their seats and run over to the windows and out onto the balcony to watch them. The atmosphere was electric. The night continued with a live band and DJ set and the dance floor was jumping. If anyone was missing then they were probably to be found having their photograph taken in the pop up photo booth which was a source of much amusement.

The event was a huge success raising over £30,000 for the charity.

Gill sent us a lovely testimonial:

“I had the enormous pleasure of working with Kate Mackenzie during the run up to the Factor 50 Charity Ball in May 2013.  I had a lot of ideas as to how I wanted the room to look, just no idea how to put it all into place.  I handed the reins to Kate and she took complete control.   She liaised with the venue, all suppliers, was there herself on the day from first thing in the morning, checking that everything was going according to her plans!   On the evening she was there before the guests, doing her final checks.

Kate is utterly unflappable.   Even when the day before the event I realised I needed to put an extra table in, she dealt with it in her stride and completely removed the stress from me!

I would recommend Kate for any event, however big or small, her attention to detail is astonishing.   Over 300 guests had a perfect evening and I will certainly be using Kate for my next event.”
